Comunità is a labor of love created to spark community over wine while honoring the communities that shape us.
Proprietor David Drummond is a Californian through and through. The son of a career Army pilot and Tuskegee Airman, his family settled in an Italian-American neighborhood in Monterey when he was a toddler, and he has lived in Northern California ever since. The rich history, cultural diversity and physical splendor of California has always inspired him, and his love for California is the driving force behind his wine journey, starting with frequent trips to wine country and ultimately leading to his decision to become a winegrower in Sonoma County. A firm believer in the proposition that wine is a journey best experienced with others, he started Comunita to celebrate the power of wine to forge connection and foster community.
While Comunità is a reflection of David, it was also born from its own small community. Sam Bilbro, Winemaker, and Thomas DeBiase, Director of Operations, became fast friends with David when he moved to Healdsburg in 2018, and Comunità is an offshoot of that friendship.
Sam is a fourth generation Sonoma County winemaker with a long history of making Italian varietals in the region. Sam reimagined Las Cimas with David over a multi-year grafting project which led to Comunità.
Thomas has worked every aspect of this industry over the last nearly twenty years. He is a fierce lover of all things Italian and Californian, and when not making all things happen behind the scenes, he is cooking amazing meals at all our events.
